Consensys has announced its plans to “retire“ Truffle and Ganache amid plans to switch to MetaMask Snaps and SDK. Paradigm CTO and Partner Georgios Konstantopoulos considered development as the end of an era and also highlighted that he wrote his first smart contract in the Truffle software (Suite).
???? Consensys is announcing the sunset of Truffle & Ganache, as we shift our focus towards empowering developers with @MetaMask toolings like Snaps & SDK.
Recognizing the significance of Truffle & Ganache, we are partnering with @HardhatHQ to facilitate a smooth transition????

Currently, Ethereum developers are looking forward to meeting and greeting the teams behind these two tools, as they were increasingly vital during the early days of Ethereum smart contracts.
Truffle commented that it was a challenging time period and that the toolset would be phased out over the next 90 days. The announcement sparked several comments from several Ethereum developers who mainly highlighted how these tools were the first ones they wrote their first smart contracts with and how they helped launch their careers.
Truffle Suite was launched in 2015 and its team and technology were acquired by Consensys in 2020. During the time of acquisitionConsensys commented that the suite was being used by nearly 1.3 million developers worldwide.
Consensys Moves Forward
In an effort to simplify the transition between different technologies, Consensys explained that it would join HardHat to help developers start writing and deploying new software on the Ethereum network.. The platform is currently investing in a number of tools and APIs to empower developers to build DApps alongside MetaMask, Infura and Line.
After being removed from the platform, the two toolsets would still be available as public files. Within the Ethereum developer community, Ganache was considered a popular tool for creating, evaluating and deploying smart contracts.. It was an increasingly in-demand technology stack due to its interoperability with Truffle Suite, a development framework for building, testing and deploying smart contracts on the Ethereum network.
MetaMask Snaps are simply Consensys’ name for DApps built by third-party developers that would be used to extend the overall functionality of the MetaMask wallet. However, Consensys chief strategy officer Simon Morris He went on to explain that the functionality of the soon-to-be-released MetaMask Snaps will be nearly identical to that of the Apple App Store.
