This Friday, May 10, the National Coordinator for the Reduction of Natural Disasters (Conred) carried out an evaluation at the facilities of the Santo Domingo stadium, where the first leg final of the 2024 Clausura Tournament of Guatemalan soccer will be played on Saturday the 11th and concluded that It is not advisable to use the property, since it does not comply with minimum safety standards.
The reason for the visit to the sports venue is because the Mixque team began on May 6 with installation work on provisional stands with which they hoped to increase the capacity of the stadium to regarding 10 thousand spectators, despite the fact that the maximum authorized capacity It is regarding 6 thousand fans.
The National Football Federation of Guatemala (Fedefut) through the Club Licensing Unit He indicated that it is not among his functions to authorize the capacity of the stadiums and that it is the responsibility of the teams and corresponding government authorities.
The Conred reported this May 10 in an official statement that “an inspection was carried out at the Santo Domingo de Guzmán Municipal Stadium” and that based on the “Minimum Safety Standards in Buildings and Facilities for Public Use -DRD2- and the Minimum Standards of Security in Socio-Organizational Events -NRD4-”, came to the following conclusions:
- Under the current condition, the property does not have enough emergency exits. The increase in the occupancy load leads to potential insecurity for people in the event that an evacuation is required.
- It is considered that the metal structures for the formation of stands lack a safe design, which may imply an increase in the probability of occurrence of risk situations in their use.
- The metal stands adjacent to the surrounding street are considered unsafe for use. The proximity to the difference in level that exists between the street and the stands, in relation to the platform formed for its location, enhances the insecurity of its use.
Based on that, Conred does not recommend using the property until it is verified that they comply with the previously established standards.
Free Press He tried to contact the Municipality of Mixco to find out their position, but a response is still awaited.
