Conor Benn might celebrate his return to the ring as early as next Saturday and meet a German: Rico Müller!
Will there be a duel between Conor Benn and Rico Müller?
As BOXEN1 has learned, there will be a duel between Conor Benn and Rico Müller on September 23rd in Orlando, Florida, USA. According to BoxRec, eight fights have been confirmed so far on the card in the USA organized by Eddie Hearn (Matchroom). With Conor Benn, who has been inactive since April 2022 due to an alleged doping scandal, the event might now have a prominent addition.
According to our source, the Brit, who was found to have clomiphene in a doping sample and who has now been rehabilitated because his high egg consumption was the reason for the increased value, will meet the German Rico Müller (30-5(2) -1, 20 KOs). Müller has boxed at two Matchroom events in the last two and a half years and is therefore well known to the British promoter. He was booked for both duels with little preparation time and here too the call was probably made at short notice. The last time the Brandenburg player was in action was in June once morest Luis Ernesto Rueda, whom he knocked out in the sixth round. In the global BoxRec ranking he is at #112 and would therefore be a suitable opponent for Conor Benn.
Benn, on the other hand, is undefeated in 21 fights. In his 14 early victories, he defeated, among others, former world champions, World Cup challengers and other former title holders and thus worked his way up the rankings before the doping scandal caused his career to stall. After the WBC, then the UKAD, the United Kingdom’s anti-doping agency, gave Benn the green light once more, promoter Hearn quickly made it clear that the son of British boxing legend Nigel Benn would soon get back into the ring.
Neither Matchroom nor Rico Müller’s camp has officially announced the fight yet. At the same event at the Caribe Royale Orlando there will also be three title fights, including one women’s world championship! Jessica McCaskill will face WBO world champion Sandy Ryan in a title unification fight. McCaskill is putting her IBO, WBA and WBC welterweight world championship belts on the line. In the super lightweight division, Richardson Hitchins and Jose Zepada duel for the IBF North America, WBC Silver and WBO NABO titles. Additionally, middleweights Austin Williams and Steve Rolls are vying for the IBF North America title.
The event will be broadcast live worldwide by DAZN.
