Connor McDavid reached the milestone of 600 assists since the start of his career thanks to a six-assist night in an 8-4 victory for the Edmonton Oilers over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

The Oilers captain now has 603 assists to his record since the start of his career. He surpassed the 600 plateau in his 616th match to be the fourth fastest in history in this regard. Wayne Gretzky obviously comes first with 416 games, Mario Lemieux follows at 514 games and Bobby Orr comes third with 608 games to record 600 assists.

With six more points under his belt, McDavid has 77 points in 47 games since the start of the campaign. He became the fifth Oilers player to record six assists following Gretzky (4 times), Paul Coffey, Mark Messier and teammate Leon Draisaitl. McDavid also obtained at least three points in a game for the 115th time in his career. This is a peak in the history of the Alberta club, tied with Messier.

Draisaitl also started the match on a good note with his 25th goal of the campaign.

McDavid then got going with passes on net from Cody Ceci and Evan Bouchard.

The game was 3-3 following 40 minutes of play when the Oilers scored five goals in the third period and McDavid had assists on four of those goals.

Dylan Holloway, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Evander Kane all benefited from their teammate’s work. On this last net, McDavid was spectacular with a pass by pivoting on himself to join Kane in the slot and he only had to redirect into a gaping cage.

Nugent-Hopkins scored his team’s final goal and was the last player to receive a discount from his captain for a net in this clash.

With this result, the Oilers signed their eighth straight victory at home. This is the second sequence of its kind for the Alberta team this season.

For the Wings, David Perron, Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat each finished the game with a goal and an assist.

Ville Husso left the game in the first half with a lower body injury. He had only allowed one goal. In relief, Alex Lyon allowed seven goals on 29 shots.

For Edmonton, Stuart Skinner made 35 saves in the victory.
