History will remember that the Leuzoise delegation arrived regarding thirty seconds before the Frasnois peloton, leaving it to us to immortalize the two arrivals.
The two groups met on the bridge which spans rue Coquereaumont, in Moustier. A meeting point which is not at equal distance from each end of the Pré-RAVeL, since it is located less than two kilometers from the end of the section on the Frasnois side for regarding 6 kilometers from the entrance to the track, in Leuze .
Not all on the same gear
For the two municipalities, this connection materializes much more than an opportunity to be seized. “It is an essential section to connect our two territories“, admits Daniel Richir, the alderman for mobility in Frasnes-lez-Anvaing.
Because many Frasnois citizens go daily (or regularly) to Leuze station, where the cycle route ends. On the other side, residents of Leuz will also be able to take advantage of a connection in complete safety (and without detours) to walk in bucolic and hilly corners on foot, on horseback or by bicycle.
Another advantage of this line 86: its central position in the network of cycle paths in Picardy Wallonia. A hub was missing around all the spokes going to Péruwelz, Ath or Tournai. It is now practical. “When we analyze the map of the RAVeL network in Picardy Wallonia, we realize that the routes form a loop. By integrating this missing link (Leuze-Frasnes-Renaix), we will obtain an 8 with, at the center of the network, the town of Leuze and its station. A godsend, especially since we want to transform the SNCB site into an intermodal place, where the tourist office will be deployed“, recalls Nicolas Dumont, the Leuzois alderman.
For Leuze, it was almost the last big acceleration to do before the finish line. In Frasnes, there are still kilometers before the red flame.
Alderman Daniel Richir is perfectly aware of this. “We hope to achieve a link in the coming years to connect Moustier to the center of Frasnes. Then, you will have to look even further and reach the linguistic border to find Ronse. But we are still far from it. Hence my appeal to the subsidizing powers.“
After a decade of waiting, negotiations and formalities, here is the Pre-RAVeL of approximately 8 kilometers ready for use!
