Congressmen summon Diego Molano to debate political control over Army operation in Putumayo

Defense Minister Diego Molano was summoned by congressmen to a political control debate in Congress by the most recent army operation in Putumayo.

The military operation took place on March 28 in the village of El Remanso, municipality of Puerto Leguízamo, Putumayo. According to the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces, 11 were discharged. FARC dissidents. This version contrasts with the one provided by the community in the area and by social organizations that They denounced that among the dead there were civilians.

For its part, the Ombudsman’s Office confirmed that among the 11 people who died were the President of the Community Action Boardhis wife, a 16-year-old adolescent, a governor of the indigenous town, among other people.

Regarding the debate on political control, the representative to the chamber for Putumayo, Carlos Adolfo Ardila Espinosa, indicated that: “From Congress we will carry out an exhaustive and meticulous follow-up. Also, we will exercise political control to know details and so that all the responsible authorities deliver the pertinent report and thus to clarify this situation”.

Likewise, Senators Ángelica Lozano and Antonio Sanguino of the Alianza Verde party filed a proposal in this regard this Tuesday in the plenary of the Senate. Minister Molano, Army Commander General Eduardo Zapateiro, and ICBF director Lina María Arbeláez were summoned to this political control debate.
