Amid boos, Congressman Agmeth Escaf had to leave this Thursday, September 7, one of the stands at the Roberto Meléndez Metropolitan Stadium in Barranquilla minutes before the start of the match between Colombia and Venezuela, in the World Cup Qualifiers in the United States, Mexico and Canada 2026.

The episode, which became known on social networks, was generated due to a discussion that the House representative had with family members of the player Luis Díaz, because they were occupying the seats that were assigned to the congressman on his ballots.

In the middle of the exchange of words, several fans attacked the congressman from the Historical Pact. The videos even show that they threw beer at him while they demanded – amid shouts – that he leave the stands.

Therefore, the congressman and his family were relocated to another space in the sports arena to be able to watch the game.

After learning of the incident, the Escaf representative stated on his social networks that the incident “was not just an issue of chairs.” He maintained that this “attack and harassment” is related to “political violence and intolerance” and that it began long before he picked up his chairs.

“Indeed, I arrived and there were no free seats because they had taken them despite being numbered seats, but the problem arose since I arrived in the area of those stands, long before I demanded my seats. The attack and harassment that my family suffered is related to an issue of political violence and intolerance. I know it because of what they yelled at me and said,” said the congressman.

He also took the opportunity to point out that he never imagined he would experience a similar event, especially in his hometown. “I never imagined it might happen to me in my promised land, Barranquilla. It hurts me, I don’t deny it, because it is the city that I carry in my soul and that I love the most, and because my children were present in the attack,” said Agmeth Escaf.

Likewise, the congressman from the Historical Pact clarified that he and his family remained calm, despite the magnitude of the attack, seeking to prevent it from escalating. “Especially because my mother-in-law was there, she is an older woman, so we preferred to get on a box and protect ourselves, but pouring beer in our faces and other attacks are very low behavior. “Very mean,” he said.

His intervention in the video ends by inviting Colombians to reflect on what happened to him and his family; and that although he recognizes that the country is currently feeling great discomfort due to the most recent political news and the actions of the president, he believes that this is not the way to solve it.

“I call for respect and decency. The richness of a country is in its differences, in its nuances, in its many colors. We don’t have to attack each other for thinking differently,” she concluded.

Videos of boos once morest Armando Benedetti, former Colombian ambassador to Venezuela, were also spread through social networks.

The former diplomat was in the stands of the Metropolitano and was the subject of angry complaints from citizens.
