Congress will bring 150 seats in Karnataka, BJP will be reduced to 40… Rahul Gandhi claims

Bagalkot:Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday that Congress will get 150 out of 224 seats in Karnataka. He said that 40 percent BJP government will get only 40 seats. Gandhi paid homage to Basaveshwara at Kudal Sangam on his birth anniversary. He said that 12th century poet and social reformer Basaveshwara and people like him had laid the foundation of democracy and rights in India. He tried to remove the evils from the society.

On reaching Hubli from Delhi, Rahul Gandhi traveled by helicopter to Kudal Sangam to visit Sangamnath Temple and Ekya Linga. Kudal Sangam is an important pilgrimage center for the Lingayat sect, one of the dominant communities in Karnataka. The Ekya Mantapa or the sacred samadhi of Basaveshwara, the founder of the Lingayat sect, is located here. Kudal Sangam is also famous for its Chalukya-style Sangameshwara Temple, where it is believed that Basavanna worshiped Lord Shiva.

Had lunch with Lingayat saints

Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, State Congress Committee election campaign committee chief M.B. Along with Patil and other leaders, Rahul Gandhi later attended Basava Jayanti celebrations organized by the Utsav Samiti at Basava Mantapa and took prasad (lunch) at Kudal Sangam Dasoha Bhavan. Saints from several Lingayat Maths were present on the occasion.

Rahul Gandhi said at the function that Basavanna and people like him had laid the foundation of democracy, parliamentary democracy and rights in India. He said that Basavanna had tried to remove darkness from the society during his time and spread light.

He said, ‘Basavanna did not leave the path of truth throughout his life and spoke the truth without any fear. It is not easy to speak the truth in front of the society. Despite the threats, Basavanna did not deviate from the path of truth and questioned the evils prevailing in the society. That’s why he is respected till today.
