In a court in the Surat district of the Indian state of Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi filed an injunction against the conviction in the defamation case, which was rejected.

Rahul Gandhi Last month, a Gujarat court sentenced Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to two years in prison in a defamation case.

The court had convicted Rahul Gandhi in the ‘Modi Sarnam’ statement case.

Now the court has also rejected the request for injunction against this sentence.

Speaking outside the court, local Congress leader Nishad Desai said that the Surat district court did not issue an injunction on Rahul Gandhi’s sentence.

He further said that we will challenge this decision in the Gujarat High Court on April 21, we are sure that the court will do justice and save democracy.

Although Rahul Gandhi could not get relief from the court, his prison sentence will remain suspended pending a court appeal.

The case against Rahul Gandhi was filed by former BJP Minister Parneesh Modi, in which Rahul Gandhi was accused of calling those with Modi surname as thieves.

Rahul Gandhi had made this statement during a rally during the Lok Sabha election campaign in 2019 against which the petitioner had argued that Rahul Gandhi had insulted the entire Modi community.
