Conflicts and energy crisis cause freight traffic at North Sea Port to fall

Geopolitical conflicts such as the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis have caused the volume of goods -65.9 million tonnes- of the North Sea Port to fall by 11% in 2023, according to figures presented Tuesday by the Belgian port company. -Dutch.

North Sea Port recorded a total of 65.9 million tonnes in maritime traffic and 61.5 million tonnes by inland navigation in 2023. In total, this gives 127.4 million tonnes compared to 138.1 million tonnes in 2022 , a drop of 10.7 million tonnes. 2022, however, was a record year for the port.

The United States, with 5.4 million tonnes of maritime traffic, and Great Britain (4.7 million tonnes) occupy the first two places ahead of Brazil (4.5 million tonnes).

Last week, the port of Antwerp-Bruges also reported a 5.5% drop in sea freight volume for the same reasons.
