Conflicting reports about the progress of the Vienna negotiations

There were conflicting reports regarding the progress of Vienna’s negotiations on the nuclear agreement with Iran, following the head of the Iranian negotiating delegation, Ali Bagheri Kani, went to Tehran for consultations.

A source close to the Iranian negotiating team told IRNA that “political decisions by all negotiating parties, as well as America, are what the Vienna negotiations need to reach a final outcome.”

He added that “meetings of experts and informal meetings have always been held, and will be held later as well, between Iran and other negotiating parties, bilaterally or multilaterally.” He added that Bagheri Kani “will return to Tehran for a short visit within the framework of normal consultations during the Vienna negotiations between Iran and the 4+1 group.”

Expert sessions and informal consultations in Vienna are still continuing among the participating delegations.

Western diplomats warned of stalled talks, and sources said that the nuclear deal is in danger if no decisions are taken in Tehran and Washington. The European coordinator for talks with Iran, Enrique Mora, stressed that political decisions must be taken within days to complete the talks.
