Last night, Marvel Studios’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 stole the show by featuring many of its biggest stars. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach all made an appearance together, joined by director Matt Shakman, to share exciting details about the new Fantastic Four movie.

The cast and director gave an exclusive interview, giving a sneak peek of what we can expect from ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’. Marvel fans were fascinated with the first images and the direction that this new adaptation will take, generating enormous expectations for its release. Why won’t it be an origin story?
Shakman surprised everyone by announcing that this new version of Fantastic Four will not tell the beginning of the quartet. He explained that since we have already seen several film versions that address the origin of the team, they decided to take a different approach. Instead of narrating how they got their powers, the film will begin after that event, allowing for a fresh and unique narrative from the beginning.

Ebon Moss-Bachrachwho plays Ben Grimm, said he hasn’t seen the previous Fantastic Four adaptations. He believes focusing on doing something different and specific is more productive than trying to compare to previous versions. Pedro Pascalwho will play Reed Richards, emphasized that the new story is anchored in the team’s family relationship, providing a fresh perspective.
What is the focus of the new film?
The film is set in a retro-futuristic 1960s inspired by the heyday of the space race. This setting not only provides a visually appealing environment, but also reflects the spirit of exploration and optimism characteristic of the original comics. The director also revealed that during pre-production they filmed scenes in an astronaut preparation area, as well as segments of a science program hosted by Reed Richards, aimed at children.
