Conference on the Importance of Mental Health Among Athletes: Insights, Experts, and Discussions

Under the auspices of the Arab Open University, the International Scientific Academy for Physical Education and Sports, in cooperation with the Lebanese Society for Physical Culture, organized a massive conference at the Hilton – Al Habtoor Hotel. Its workshops, which extended for more than six hours, focused on the importance of mental health among athletes, and a large group of people with disabilities participated in its many sessions. The representative of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Muhammad Oweidat, the Vice President of the Olympic Committee, Sami Qiblawi, representatives of the leaders of the security services, the President of the Universities Sports Federation, Sami Qara Batyan, and its Secretary-General, Ziad Saadeh, presented to Dr. Amina Harbli, as a representative of the university’s director, Dr. Yara Abdullah, Professor Rana Haider, Dr. Ghadi Muqlad, and Professor Akram Deeb. And Professor Zakaria Sharara from the Arab Open University.
In detail, following the national anthem, Ms. Kibbe began the conference with an introductory speech regarding its content, objectives, and the necessary steps to benefit from it in the context of serving the sporting generations. Then, a documentary film was shown regarding the university and its expansion in the Arab world, which is distributed over nine countries, along with its departments, certificates, and management ambitions.
The first speech was given by the conference sponsor, Dr. Harbli, in which she indicated that the conference aims to exchange experiences and information revolving around sports and athletes and the extent of their impact on people’s lives. Then Professor Oueidat delivered a speech on behalf of Minister George Kallas, in which he pointed out that the spirit of a champion with athletic achievement often stems from the core of his psychological health. He stressed that paying attention to the mental health of athletes will contribute to graduating champions by instilling a spirit of competition and challenge to reach them on the podium, and he congratulates the university. In a speech to the Lebanese Olympic Committee delivered by Kablawi, he explained that mental health is no less important than physical health, especially when facing the difficulties and obstacles our country is going through that exhaust athletes and citizens.
