[Reporter Lee Eun-seong of Dongyang Ilbo]Confederation of Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) Cargo Coalition voted on the morning of the 9th and decided to return to work with the withdrawal of the general strike in the followingnoon.
Members of the Chungnam Regional Headquarters also returned to work one following another following dismantling the sit-in tents that had been set up in front of the main gate of Hyundai Steel.
The South Chungcheong Headquarters of the Cargo Solidarity held a vote at the Labor Welfare Corporation in Dangjin at around 10:00 am on the same day.
About 400 (16.6%) out of 2,400 union members (25,000 nationally) of the Chungnam Headquarters union participated, showing a low voting participation rate.
An official from the South Chungcheong Headquarters of the Korea Cargo Solidarity said, “The atmosphere was gloomy even before the vote, and since the results include the will of the union members, we have no choice but to follow them.”
Another union member, Mr. A, said, “As the government refuses to talk and blocks retreats, it is pushed into a corner, so there is no other way.”
