The Viña del Mar Oral Criminal Court found a Carabineros official guilty of unlawful coercion for assaults and stripping two women in the Quilpué commune, carried out in November 2019.

In a unanimous ruling, the Viña del Mar Oral Criminal Court found the police official with the initials NBMC guilty of illegal crimes, for events that occurred in November 2019 in the commune of quilpuein the context of the social outbreak.

The incident dates back to November 21, when in a demonstration, two women were admitted to a mobile checkpoint, when, according to the ruling, the defendant hit one of the detainees with kicks and a cane, spraying both with pepper spray. .

After that, and according to the court, already at the second police station in Quilpué, threatened women to strip naked and perform squats in a bathroom.

The lawyer of the National Institute of Human Rights of the Valparaíso region, Javiera Tapia, declared that this is the first sentence that falls on acts of institutional violence of a sexual nature.


The prosecutor of the Institutional Violence Unit, Christián Cuevas, stated that he was satisfied with this verdict.

One of the victims, with the initials LTC, recounted the events that occurred, indicating that this judicial process delivers a bit of justice to what was experienced at that time.

It should be noted that the sentence of the case will be announced on March 7.
