Paris, Aug 2 (EFE).- Conchita Martínez was part of the Russian team made up of Mirra Andreeva and Diana Schnaider, which competed as a neutral under the Olympic flag in the match against Spaniards Sara Sorribes and Cristina Bucsa in the semifinals of the women’s doubles tournament at the Olympic Games.
Conchita, who won three Olympic medals with Spain, all in this category of women’s doubles, two silver, with Arantxa in Barcelona 92 and with Virginia Ruano in Athens 2004 and another bronze, in Atalanta 1996 also with Aranxa, has been training the young Russian Andreeva since last April.
In the Olympic final match, played on the Suzzane Lenglen court, the former Wimbledon champion was part of the Russian box from where she gave instructions and encouragement to her player, the Russian Mirra Andreeva. EFE
