As a media partner, we deliver five entertaining mini-stories from six decades of blues ‘n’ roll:

Charlie Watts had nothing to do with groupies

The drummer was always loyal to his wife Shirley, to whom he was married from 1964 until his death last August, according to the band. When he visited the Playboy Mansion in 1972, he spent days there playing pinball.

Jagger and Richards were betrayed by their dealer

In 1967, police raided a party at Keith Richards’ Redlands home, and he and Mick Jagger were later charged with drug possession. She was betrayed to the authorities by her LSD dealer David “Acid King” Sniderman – according to Jagger’s biographer, because he made a deal with the FBI and MI5 to avoid being sentenced for drug trafficking himself.

They threw cake at Journis

For the release of their 1968 album “Beggars Banquet”, the Stones invited journalists and people from the entertainment industry to a banquet. This ended with the band throwing dozens of custard pies at those in attendance.

The band got cake too – much to the delight of Mick Jagger here at right.

They made over half a billion from just one tour

On their «A Bigger Bang Tour», which lasted from August 2005 to August 2007, the English took almost 560 million dollars – only Guns N’ Roses, U2 and Ed Sheeran had more successful tours financially.

They played for 1.5 million fans at once

It was on this very tour that the Stones gave their biggest concert to date in 2006 at Praia de Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro. The crowd was spread over such a large area that the technicians had to delay the sound by a second every 900 meters or so so that the sound was not completely distorted.

Since Charlie Watts' death, the band has consisted of guitarist/bassist Ronnie Wood, frontman Mick Jagger and guitarist/bassist Keith Richards (from left). Other live musicians accompany the trio on tour.

We were involved in setting up the show at Letzi in 2017 – production director Dale Skjerseth had impressive things to tell.
