A concert of high artistic level was given on Saturday July 20 by the ERT symphony orchestra, at the evocative site of Panagia Gouverniotissa, in the picturesque mountainous region of Crete, in the Municipality of Hersonissos. The concert was held as part of the events co-organized by the Region of Crete, the Municipality of Hersonissos, the Union of Daily Newspaper Editors of Peloponnese, Epirus – Islands and the Culture and Development Organization of the Municipality of Hersonissos “The Governess”.
It is indicative as well as characteristic of the fact that the concert was attended by a large number of people who had come from all over Crete and various regions of Greece.
At the concert, the performers presented “Cantata opus 32”, for Symphony Orchestra, Mixed Choir and Soloist, with music composed by Panagiotis Fournarakis and poetry by Antonis Sanoudakis. The music was based on the poetic composition entitled: “The horses gallop unbridled”.
The mixed choir of Heraklion Regional Unity under the direction of Lena Chatzigeorgiou participated in the concert. Soloist: Diamantis Kritsotakis – Mezzo Soprano Maria Kritsotakis – Soprano. The musical director was Michalis Oikonomou. The co-organizers, contributors of the concert, the institutional representatives and the crowd of attendees were warmly welcomed and thanked by the journalist, member of ESIEPIN and president of the Organization for Culture & Development of Rivers “The Governess” Manolis Argyrakis.
In her greeting, the Deputy Regional Governor for Culture, Georgia Milaki, after thanking the contributors of the successful concert, referred to the importance of the event and the Region’s events throughout Crete, and conveyed to those present the greetings of the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis, as well as the president of the Regional Council and festival manager Vangelis Zaharis.
In his greeting, the Mayor of Hersonissos, Zacharias Doxastakis, said that it is everyone’s joy and honor for the successful concert, which was dedicated to the memory of the great creator Theodoros Antoniou, who came from the area. Honorable mention was also made by the Mayor for Antonis Sanoudakis, originally from the Peninsula, as well as for Panagiotis Fournarakis.
The event was prefaced and presented by the Planning and Curator of the Crete Festival Ioanna Giannari, who referred to the philosophy of the Crete Festival.
At the end of the concert, Mr. Fournarakis and Sanoudakis thanked all the artists, contributors, co-organizers, institutional representatives and the crowd of citizens present from the concert platform. In fact, Mr. Fournarakis primarily thanked the Regional Governor of Crete, saying characteristically: “A big personal thank you to the Regional Governor of Crete Stavros Arnautakis, because without his approval and support tonight’s concert would not have taken place”.
