To the needy grandparents, those who have neither a home nor a pension, the concert of love held on February 14 by the Social Care of Moschato in the “Nikos Teboneras” amphitheater, in Tavros, is dedicated, with the central performer Ilias Palioudakis, the Cretan singer who sings on the TV show “Sasmos”. The goals of the evening are to support the work of the House of Love and to “get to know” the public with the institution “Become a relative”.
Love, when shared, multiplies, this is what Spitiko tis Agapi stands for, which for 61 years has been hosting needy grandparents without requiring the slightest contribution from them. Since 1962, it has housed people who, in the most vulnerable period of their lives, in old age, found themselves without money and without people around them.
“The charity concert on February 14 is being held with the aim of making a big shout that will say ‘You too, friend, can be related!’ We tend to say that we won’t change the world, but we can change a person’s life. We can be part of the solution and this man who was in poverty can move to dignity”, says Anastasios Theophilaktospresident of the foundation.
“I was always touched and sensitized by the problem of my neighbor”, he says to “ET”. Elias Palioudakis. “In this particular case I consider it my duty to help the elderly people, who do not have the strength to fight and now expect help from us younger people. This effort touches my most sensitive chords. I want the rest of the world to feel the same. I am a resident of Moschato and I am one of the many who thought that this is just a nursing home, until I found out that it is an institution that accommodates needy elderly people and needs our support. The least I might do was to help with my music and with my presence to stand next to these people.”
Is this sensitivity rooted in your personal environment?
I didn’t get a chance to see my people grow old. And I mean my mother and my father… I didn’t see them grow up and that makes me very sad every time I think regarding it. But there were elderly people in my wider family environment that my parents stood up to and that was the best example for me. Whenever and however I can, I also stand next to the people in need guided by my music.
What message do you want to give through the concert?
Private initiatives are admirable, but when there are many of us, we can achieve more. In the difficult times we are living in, we should show teamwork in the face of problems. That’s the only way we can deal with them.
What is the institution of “Become a relative”?
In difficult economic times, becoming a relative is the only solution for the smooth functioning of the House of Love, as the volunteers create a big family around the grandparents. They become their relatives, their friends… their own people, who together can fill both their financial and emotional void, so that they can live out the last years of their lives in family conditions.
LIFE AWARDS
During the love concert, the Lifetime Awards will be given for the first time to the senior citizens of the institution. A symbolic move that aims to honor these people for the struggle they gave and are giving in life.
Actors Maria Tzompanaki, Michalis Aerakis, Antonis Loudaros, presenters Katerina Zarifi and Petros Polychronidis, award-winning chef Dina Nikolaou, Olympic medalist Giorgos Chiemonetos, among others, will be present at the evening to present the awards to the inmates of the institution. etc.
