A persistent thunderstorm over the city required a new entrance area for the 3,000 visitors to get into the half-open wooden construction of the Graz exhibition hall. A change in the allocation of seats meant that some concert guests found themselves in a different (usually better) seat than the one they had bought.
After these organizational measures, nothing stood in the way of the performance of the 41-year-old star violinist David Garrett. He lived up to the concert motto “Cross-over”. Because the German made his way through Metallica’s opening song “Enter Sandman” through the audience to the stage in order to perform apparently stylistically incompatible things like Metallica in the following concert program, followed by Ray Charles (“Hit The Road Jack”), followed by Disney’s “The to play “Beauty and the Beast” and thus to demonstrate that these musical styles can be combined.
David Garrett’s technique and virtuosity on his instrument subsequently impresses with works by Ludwig van Beethoven as well as with popular pieces by the Beatles or Michael Jackson as well as film music from “Pirates of the Caribbean”. Between performances there are pointed announcements by Garrett to entertain the diverse audience, which actually ranges from grandchildren to grandparents.
So it’s fitting that two long-term couples from the auditorium were able to settle down on a couch on stage while David Garrett serenaded what is sure to be an unforgettable song with the song “Shallow” (from Lady Gaga’s “A Star Is Born”) to get.
The final “What A Wonderful World” releases the enthusiastic and satisfied audience into the meanwhile rain-free night.
