Short but full of emotion and euphoria: the British band “The Last Dinner Party” celebrated their last tour stop in the garish Forelle!
I knew it would be very crowded in the concert venue that evening and I knew we had to be there early. So we were in front of the bright trout just a few minutes following admission and what I saw then was something I had rarely seen in Vienna: the queue was endlessly long and all my hopes of getting a good seat disappeared in one fell swoop. I didn’t expect that the hype might actually reach Vienna to this extent!
Through a few lucky circumstances we were able to get to the garish trout in time and secure a decent spot. and then the long wait began. At some point it was finally 8 p.m. and support artist “lana lubanycame on stage. Their music sounded like sad, mournful but rousing pop music. She didn’t skimp on poses and dance moves and received a lot of cheers and applause. But: everyone was secretly waiting longingly for the main attraction of the evening.
There was a crackling noise and excitement in the air. Some time had to pass before it actually started. But then, shortly following 9 p.m., the lights went out, the instrumental intro “Prelude to Ecstasy” played and the six women from “the last dinner partystormed the stage! The ecstasy was there immediately when they sang their first song “Burn Alive”, because vocalist Abigail Morris appeared with a veil, moved continuously and offered us not only beautiful singing but also a performance that was worth seeing. Her poses, her dances, her expressions: all of this made Abigail not just a frontwoman but a true icon. you just mightn’t not look at her, she kept drawing attention to herself. right!
With “ceasar on tv screen” and “the feminine urge” the hits continued – and the enthusiasm was huge! The main focus was of course on Abigail because she kept coming up with dance moves that I mightn’t even dream of – but the other ladies also shone with movement, shaking their hair and playing instruments! After so much high spirits, the brakes were put on a bit starting with “Beautiful Boy”. But immediately followingwards it continued once more with a lot of feeling as everyone sang in the choir to “On Your Side”. Things stayed a little quieter, but then one of the over-the-top hits from “The Last Dinner Party” came on, namely “Sinner” and it got really wild! No wonder Abigail lost her veil! She hissed across the stage, repeatedly leaning towards her bandmates to share microphones and sing together with them with great fervor. At this point at the latest, I felt everything – joy, gratitude and also sadness because I knew that the concert was already coming to an end.
For me personally, the penultimate song “My Lady of Mercy” was another highlight for eternity! Because Abigail climbed to or almost into the audience to sing together, or rather: to shout at each other and then dance everything away from her soul in the chorus. I was close to tears because of this wonderful song, but at the same time I was close to tears because I was really struggling to see anything from the stage. Of course, everyone around me was much taller and it was now painful to stand on tiptoes. But at least the concert didn’t last forever – we were probably at minute 48 and “the last dinner party” started singing their last song “Nothing Matters”. It was unbelievable: everyone was singing, everyone was celebrating this song, but above all the band itself was really into their performance! Abigail once once more sought contact with the audience and high-fived the front row before returning to the stage and doing the wildest pirouettes! and then, then the concert was over, following a good 50 minutes. “The last dinner party” everyone bowed together and enjoyed the applause. what a short but very, very fine appearance!
