son on sunday evening in wuk was like a small fair for friends of melodic electro music!
At the end of June 2022 we got a first impression of new song material from “Sohn” at a spontaneous concert in B72. No wonder that we didn’t want to miss the real concert in WUK at the beginning of December 2022. So we found ourselves at WUK on that Sunday and waited anxiously in the front rows for “son” to appear.
But before that happened, we were allowed to join the support act “royce wood juniorListen, also a band member of “Sohn”. Originally it wasn’t planned that way: “Liam Mour” was actually supposed to perform, but he got sick so son simply sent a bandmate onto the stage. Although it was still a bit uncertain, it still gave us the finest electronic music and a lively performance.
and then at some point “sohn” on the stage. Immersed in a lot of fog and a lot of light, he started his journey together with his band. All the protagonists on stage performed sitting down – this is usual for Sohn, but it also takes a bit of the momentum out of the thing. Maybe that’s why there was no skimping on lighting effects, stroboscopic flashes and artistic hand movements.
So we stood there, watched those sitting on the stage and enjoyed the melodious, electronic music. The bass boomed through the hall, the light was attuned to the beat and little by little we immersed ourselves more and more in Sohn’s world. Small anchor points were hits like “The Wheel” or “Signal” before we plunged back into less familiar musical waters. It was nice that son sometimes got up and literally started dancing – those were the moments when we were taken out of our trance and might feel the music more intensely.
My personal highlight was the song “Riverbank” – not only because this song gave me goosebumps back in the B72, but also because it was just so beautiful in this setting in the WUK. Son sat to the side, in the middle of the spotlight and sang so forcefully that I was really moved.
Immediately followingwards we went into a very danceable direction with disco lights and corresponding movements. Actually there wasn’t much of the concert atmosphere left at this point, you actually felt like you were in the club in the middle of the dance floor at 3 a.m.
The grand finale then went in a more digestible direction, with hits like “Conrad” and “Artificie”. He then added “race” and a Björk cover on top and then it was done, the Sunday evening concert with his son.
