Pogo dances, beer showers and “don’t look back into the sun”: the Libertines were at the Vienna Gasometer.
Concerts by and with “Pete Doherty” are always an exciting experience. you never know what he will be like and, above all, you never know whether he will even be there. Anyway, I wanted to try my luck and see if he would like to join his band.”the libertines“catch me. and actually: the concert took place!
But before we started with “the libertines”, we first had to meet the two supporting bands.dead freights” and “the ramona flowers” survive. Very often support acts surprise me in a positive way, but in this case that wasn’t the case. I just wanted the concerts to be over quickly – because without a certain hit density, bands on the gasometer stage quickly disappear and well, hit density was non-existent. Fortunately, at some point the time had come and “the libertines“ scurried onto the stage. I was amazed at how good a mood everyone seemed – I had expected the opposite, because the opposite usually happens in Vienna.
Anyway, the show started and shortly followingwards I realized that I had ended up in an overconfident, pushing around audience. I had completely forgotten that “The Libertines” attracted this kind of crowd and well, from that point on I was mostly occupied with defending my place at the front or fighting not to be pushed to the ground.
In between, of course, I tried to follow the musical activity on stage, and sometimes I succeeded very well. Especially during the quieter pieces, people didn’t have to indulge their urge to pogo and those were the moments in which I enjoyed the music of the “Libertines” the most. But even during my fight in the front rows, I sometimes managed to dance around a bit to my all-time favorite hits. Just until the next elbow hit me in the rib or another beer shower reached me. Yes, beer showers were also common that evening. it was just wonderful, haha.
But now to the actual topic, namely the concert: I thought the whole thing on stage was very good, with a lot of hits from very good musicians. There was a lot of movement on stage, a lot of duet singing, wonderful stage lighting, a good range of tension from wild to gentle and Mr. Doherty, who didn’t step out of line, but adapted to the band structure and was an exemplary bandmate.
And so the final conclusion is: the band was wonderful, the audience not so much. All in all, the evening was still fun – in the end I simply put aside all the bruises and the beer showers and only remembered the good hits and hey presto, the evening will always be saved in my head with the rating “very good”.
