It was an indie concert evening in Chelsea as it should be: the British band “Sports Team” was loud, melodic, chaotic and lovable!

As soon as I read the announcement that “Sports Team” would be coming to Vienna, I was thrilled. The reason: a few months earlier I was at a festival in England and wasn’t able to see the group due to time slot conflicts and was incredibly sad about it. And now the British troops simply came to my town – my joy knew no bounds. That’s why I’ve been hopping around in anticipation all day.

When I arrived at Chelsea I immediately secured a seat at the front – I wanted to make sure I saw everything and didn’t miss a second. and when it finally started and “sports teamWhen they threw their melodies at us, I was happy. It was exactly as I had imagined: loud guitars, catchy indie sounds, sometimes a bit of spoken word interjections, sometimes a bit of shouting, sometimes a bit of an I-don’t-care-attitude attitude but always a lot of feeling, albeit more in the complaining, rebellious direction.

Admittedly, I had to get used to the I-don’t-care attitude at first. Sometimes I had a hard time telling whether they were really having fun or whether it was all just a stressful job for the band. The keyboard player in particular didn’t even make a happy expression on his face, and I was actually a bit worried about him sometimes. Should I save him from the stage? But in between, at least the rest of the group let it be known again and again that they would like to present their wild indie music in Vienna’s Chelsea.

At the beginning I also felt there was a bit too little movement on stage – but this improved over the course of the evening. The more catchy tunes were thrown out, the more the audience danced and the more the band adapted and showed a few more moves.

In order to be able to initiate (dance) movements on and in front of the stage, you need highlights in the set list and of course “Sports Team” gave us these: a song highlight every evening was not just the Frankie Goes to Hollywood cover “relax” but also his own pieces like “camel crew”, “the drop” and “here’s the thing”. In any case, I was blown away by this performance but it wasn’t surprising: I was so into the sports team cosmos that I celebrated every guitar riff and was happy to finally hear it live.

After their concert, the band also took time to chat with those present and I took the chance and was finally able to solve the mystery about the expressionless keyboard player: I asked not only him but also the rest of the band whether the keyboard player was okay anyway goes and they said yes. He was fine, he just always looks so listless but that’s no reason to worry. that’s just how it is. He even smiled once while chatting. I was relieved and then walked home happily. If the band is doing well, I’m doing well too!
