“Dadi Freyr” caused a lot of ecstasy in the flex – and quite rightly, the entire Viennese audience fell in love with the Icelandic artist!

I was extremely motivated for “Dadi Freyr’s” concert that Friday evening – since he first gained greater attention as part of the Icelandic preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020, I couldn’t ignore it either. That’s why I was there way too early to get a place in the front row, I just had to experience this performance up close.

However, before I was able to enjoy the exceptional Icelandic talent, I heard “toucan” the stage. and I would have liked to have saved myself that. He moved in a very strange mix of music – it was something between pop ballads and funk, but without a real common thread. To me it all sounded very inconsequential and I just wanted the gig to be over quickly. sorry.

To be honest, the evening could only get better. Maybe it was actually a good tactic to take a strange support act with you in order to shine a little more yourself? But I don’t want to accuse anyone of anything. Anyway, I had to wait a bit before it finally started.

daddy freyr“ came on stage and initially hid behind or rather next to his keyboard instruments. At first I wasn’t quite sure whether the shyness would go away. But luckily I was quickly taught otherwise: after just a few numbers, Dadi Freyr shone in the most beautiful stage lights and delighted us with rousing beats and a wonderfully distinctive dance style.

His long, lanky figure often caused him to stand a bit hunched over, but in the next moment this looked funny again, especially when he made somewhat more lascivious movements. Once he even pulled his shirt up an inch and wiggled his butt slightly. it was just a joy to watch him just not taking himself seriously. Apart from that, he danced so incredibly well that he encouraged the entire audience to do the same. it was a dream!

But it wasn’t just his movements that were impressive, his very good voice was also breathtaking. Thanks to his vocal organ, he turned every collection of sounds into a hit. Yes, every song really sounded like a hit and even though I had never heard most of them before, all the numbers seemed incredibly familiar. Less familiar but very impressive was the Icelandic rap performed by the person with the string instrument. The chant sounded a bit like the person was sick, but in fact it was just Icelandic rap!

My personal highlight was not only the many great danceable songs, but also a very special moment between the artist and me, namely me as the person in the front row: Dadi Freyr took the cell phone from a visitor, filmed himself on stage and came then directly towards me to film into my cell phone camera. That was so strange and funny at the same time, I still don’t know what to think about it. In any case, I will always have very special memories of my concert video with its film campaign.

When the Eurovision hit “Think About Things” played, it was not only the supposed end, but also another absolute highlight. Everyone rightly freaked out, the mood literally boiled over! Up to this point I was already completely thrilled with this evening and I thought it couldn’t be topped. and then? then came the encore part. the personalized addition part!

“Dadi Freyr” surprised us with a total of three covers and the first of them was actually a cover version of DJ Ötzi’s “Hey Baby” in an ultra-slow version. I’ve actually never heard this song better! This was followed by the Falco cover “Rock Me Amadeus” and last but not least we were able to look forward to the Atmoic Kitten cover “Whole Again”. Of course, all of these song highlights thrilled the audience endlessly! No wonder Dadi Freyr was able to receive a lot of applause. In any case, my heart jumped with joy and I went home overjoyed – what a great concert evening!
