Concern is growing as the Christmas holidays approach, and as Public Health France indicators show an increase in Covid cases, and a growing impact on hospitals. Among these indicators, one shows the share of Covid cases in emergencies requiring hospitalization, according to the departments, as you can see on the map below.

3.2% of hospitalizations are for Covid

We note that the western and central departments of the country are the most affected. Thus, in 27 departments, at least half of Covid cases in emergency rooms required hospitalization, which weighed on hospital activity. Nationally, there were 2,221 hospitalizations following suspected Covid-19, which represents 3.2% of hospitalizations, compared to 2.7% the previous week.

An increase in visits to emergency rooms for Covid

Nationally, the number of emergency room visits for suspected Covid-19 was 5,428, or 1.5%, compared to 1.2% the previous week. Another indicator that worries us as the Christmas holidays approach, conducive to family gatherings with vulnerable people and which contribute to the spread of the virus, is the number of cases nationally.

There are 34,889 new cases, compared to 28,437 the previous week, representing an incidence rate of 51 per 100,000 inhabitants nationally, compared to 42 the previous week. An increasing average, which hides a disparity on a local scale, as you can see on the map below.

182 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Bas-Rhin

Thus the North-Eastern quarter of the country, but also the Mediterranean departments are more affected. For example, we note an incidence of 182 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Bas-Rhin, 165 in Haut-Rhin, 143 in Moselle, 130 in Meuse and even 101 in Var. In total, 34 departments have an incidence rate greater than 50.

A call to get vaccinated
