The Brussels port community has decided to turn to the Council of State as a precaution in the case of the redevelopment of Avenue Van Praet, note our colleagues from Echo. Its president Michel De Bièvre and the 145 companies he brings together fear that the project will hinder the accessibility of the port for heavy goods vehicles coming from the Ring.

The planning permit has been issued for this vast overhaul of the entrance to the capital. At the end of the work, automobile traffic will circulate in both directions – but on a single lane – on Avenue Van Praet. This change will make it possible to free up spaces on the avenue des Croix du Feu and to develop a green space. This second artery is currently used as an exit from Brussels.

According to the president of the CPB, the single band is a problem because a breakdown or an accident on the avenue Van Praet would no longer allow any alternative to accessibility to the port. He indicates that he has had contacts with the Brussels authorities and has also obtained progress, “but without concretization in the urban planning procedure”.
