Working on a farm involves hard work that can take a toll on your body and mind. Operational management means entrepreneurial risk. Daily work makes it difficult to take sick leave or time off. Several generations living together can cause problems.
In order to offer a contact point in the event of problems, the farmer’s helpline was established more than ten years ago as the first, low-threshold contact point by the chambers of agriculture. 875 farmers used the service in 2022, 72 percent women. In total, more than 10,000 consultations have been carried out since it was founded.
“The need is great, so psychosocial counseling is being expanded,” says Clemens Stammler, member of the Green National Council, who is also spokesman for agriculture and forestry: A corresponding application, which was made with the ÖVP, was unanimously accepted by the agriculture committee in June . This was debated and approved in the National Council yesterday. The availability should be expanded, the staff increased.
The additional funds also come from subsidies from the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy. Now the need is determined and then the amount is determined.
