As soon as the industry had time to incorporate the iPhone 15, enthusiasts are already imagining what the Apple iPhone 16 will be like. This time, while rumors regarding the new feature are still reasonably scarce, the user @upintheozone published a conceptual image on X in which he imagines a smartphone with vertical rear cameras, housing a LiDAR sensor in the module for augmented reality (AR) features. Imagination applies to the possible layout of the most basic models in the line, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
The AR integration would follow the trend heralded by the Vision Pro headset, in addition to the ability to record spatial video for the iPhone 15 Pro models in the latest iOS 17.2 beta. The feature uses the iPhone 15 Pro’s upgraded camera hardware and LiDAR scanner to record the depth of objects and people in the frame.
In the renders, the sensor is located in the same location as the Pro models. If Apple moves forward, the standard models will feature the sensor for the first time since its debut on the lower-end models.
The cameras are also arranged one on top of the other, instead of the traditional diagonal design, adopted since the iPhone 13.
The designer also suggests that Apple replace the silent mode slider button with a new action button. Currently, only iPhone 15 Pro models are equipped with such a button. Standard models still house the slider.
For cell phones in 2024, Apple is expected to update the iPhone 16’s camera sensors coupled with a faster 3-nanometer chip, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro models.
