Concept for Dodge electric car according to Hellcat engine > teslamag.de

A car era is coming to an end in the USA – but with a great deal of noise, and then it is to be continued with artificial riots: the Stellantis brand Dodge had a good time with its aggressive, sporty models Challenger and Charger, but in 2023 it will be in incinerator form should end. This is celebrated with a series of special models that will certainly not be tame. And shortly therefollowing, Dodge showed what their own future with muscle electric cars should look like and probably also sound like.

Dodge electric car with 126 dB exhaust sound

The Charger Daytona SRT drives like a Dodge, looks like a Dodge and feels like a Dodge, the company writes in a message. The shape is actually reminiscent of the current combustion engine charger, even if it looks more fluid. Nobody knows how the electric car will drive, because it’s still just a concept. But to really make it feel like a Charger you’re used to, Dodge built it in with a super-loud exterior sound system.

Other manufacturers also come up with such ideas, mainly when, like Dodge, they switch from conventional and rather sporty combustion engines to electric cars. There are artificial engine sounds outside and inside the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT, among others, and according to a patent application, Porsche even wants it simulate exhaust pipes visually and acoustically with resonance bodies at the rear. But nobody has tried it as loud as Dodge.

The company expressly emphasizes this in its announcement of the successor concept as one of three patent-worthy highlights: The “first electric car exhaust in the industry” can reach up to 126 decibels. That’s as loud as a traditional Hellcat engine, writes Dodge. It might also be heard in the presentation, and 30 seconds in a video with impressions of the Charger Daytina SRT Concept are devoted to the artificial sound. The electric car grumbles menacingly when it is virtually idle, and because it even has a manual transmission, you can let the engine howl in a metallic, alienated way while standing.

Louder than Plaid Tesla – and faster?

Whether the artificial noise should and may go into series production remained open at first, but the concept should actually become a product by 2024. The drive with 800 volt system voltage bears the name Banshee and should be as sonorous as Hemi or Hellcat. According to the Dodge CEO, the electric car represents the muscle car of the future and will redefine this segment. He also promised top performances in the quarter mile, but without giving any specific information. On the Tesla now dominates drag distance with the Model S Plaid, which Autoblog dubbed just this week as today’s “American muscle sedan.” But the Dodge electric car is almost certainly going to be at least louder.
