Asunción, IP Agency.- The city of Concepción is advancing towards its road modernization with the beginning of the comprehensive reconstruction of the 2 de Mayo roundabout, located in the Itacurubí neighborhood, the main access point to the urban area. The work is being carried out by the construction company Acaray, responsible for Lot 3 of the Northern Corridor.
According to the report from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), the ongoing works include patching and resurfacing work, after complete milling of the asphalt layer. To guarantee security and traffic flow during the intervention, there is permanent support from the Municipal Traffic Police.
This intervention is part of the commitments assumed by the MOPC with the municipal and departmental authorities, and complements the recent rehabilitation of the 6 kilometer section of the PY05 route, which extends from the same roundabout to the Nanawa bridge.
Sustained advance of the Northern Corridor
For its part, the Northern Corridor, the framework project for this work, has already recorded significant progress, exceeding 70% completion. This is a strategic initiative that will significantly reduce travel times between San Pedro and Concepción.
This project, financed by the Mercosur Structural Convergence Fund (Focem), contemplates the construction of 150 kilometers of road infrastructure divided into three lots.
Lot 1, awarded to Ecomipa, extends from the Yacare Ñe’e crossing to kilometer 50. Lot 2, in charge of the Eastern Vial Consortium, covers from kilometer 50 to 88.8, including a 200-meter bridge over the Ypané River and access to the Ybapovó port.
Lot 3, under the responsibility of Acaray, includes the section from Horqueta to Belén, continuing along route PY22 to Concepción.
Once completed, the Northern Corridor will benefit more than 400,000 inhabitants of various communities, including San Pedro, Concepción, Nueva Germania, Horqueta and Belén, significantly enhancing the connectivity and economic development of the entire region.
