CONCACAF suspends 4 players following a fight between America and Mexico

CONCACAF (North, Central America and the Caribbean) Football Association announced the suspension of players from the American and Mexican national teams, due to a major brawl that occurred on the field during the match, in the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Nations League.

CONCACAF announced the suspension of American players Weston McKinney and Serginho Dest, and Mexicans Cesar Montes and Gerardo Atiaga, following the confrontation that ended with America’s 3-0 victory over Mexico last week in Las Vegas, USA.

The confrontation witnessed the throwing of packages and drinks on the green rectangle by the majority of pro-Mexico fans, and the referee raised the red card in the face of Montes following a violent kick on Folarin Balogun, at a time when McKinney was expelled for his role in the subsequent quarrel, before he followed in the footsteps of Arteaga and Dest.

CONCACAF announced that it had suspended McKinney and Montes for 3 matches, in addition to the automatic match resulting from the expulsion, at a time when Dest and Arteaga were subjected to a penalty of stopping two additional matches. The Mexican, who pushed Salvadoran referee Evan Barton to stop the match in its final minutes.
