Tragedy struck Lambanyi New Commune in Bantounka District this Sunday, August 25, 2024. Two sisters were found dead in a sewing workshop, dying from carbon monoxide asphyxiation.

According to the first information gathered at the scene, it seems that the young girls lit a charcoal stove in their workshop in order to keep warm at night. Unfortunately, not knowing the dangers involved, they locked themselves in the room, creating a fatal situation.

Sékou Mara, the head of the Bantuenka district, recounted the tragic discovery: “It seems that at night, they were cold and made a fire in a charcoal stove. Out of ignorance, they locked themselves up. In the end, they suffocated with carbon dioxide. »

The parents raised the alarm, worried that there was no news about the two sisters, which was an unusual situation for them. “When they were with their parents, they were used to communicating to get news, but today it was the opposite. They called several times without receiving a response, and they said to themselves: “Let’s go to their workshop and check”. When they arrived, they raised the alarm. Then they forced the door open. That’s where they found the two girls dead,” added the neighborhood leader.

Authorities disposed of the bodies of both victims according to routine procedures. This tragedy serves as a reminder of the dangers of using coal stoves in enclosed and poorly ventilated spaces and underscores the importance of raising awareness of the risks of carbon monoxide asphyxiation.
