The president of the Guinea Bakers Association, Elhaj Oumar Sakho, was arrested this Friday, September 8, 2023 and placed in police custody at the Bonfi central police station, in the commune of Matam.

Reached by telephone, by our editorial team, the number 1 of the Guinean bakers’ association explains: “It is because of the baker who was arrested following attacking his fellow bakers on the night of Tuesday August 29, 2023. He remained in detention for days, the association mandated me to come and have him released so that an internal sanction might be imposed on him. This is what I did with the Hamdallaye bakers’ office.”

Since his release, the baker has stopped responding to the police. Thus, Elhaj Oumar Sakho was arrested and placed in police custody. “I was arrested in Bellevue, while I was at a meeting with members of the commerce office. I have been at the Bonfi central police station since 2 p.m. Now, they (the police) say that she (the person I made, Editor’s note) must come back otherwise I will be kept at the police station here,” he told Guinee360.com.

The baker in question is a collaborator of Alseny Baldé, the other apprentice baker killed, on the night of Monday to Tuesday August 1, 2023, in Hamdallaye-crusher. He and some of his colleagues wanted to organize a strike, to denounce the slowness of the justice system in clarifying this assassination. Since they were not followed, they attacked their fellow bakers, accusing them of boycotting the strike movement they had launched.
