The production index of manufacturing industries in Morocco, which tracks the evolution of the performance of Moroccan industry, recorded an increase of 0.8% during the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to the same period of 2021, carried by sectors such as the manufacture of beverages, the leather and footwear industry or the Manufacture of electrical and computer equipment.
Manufacturing industries excluding oil refining recorded an increase during activity in 2022, compared to the previous year, once morest 0.3% for electrical energy and a drop of 18.6% for extractive industries.
The most significant increase was recorded in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products with an increase of 38.9%, followed by the manufacture of beverages with 28.0% and the manufacture of electrical equipment which experienced an increase. 21.1% increase in activity over the year.
Next comes the leather and footwear industry, excluding leather clothing, which increased by 19.5%, the manufacture of tobacco products (10.3%), followed by the automotive industry with 15 .4% growth, and the pharmaceutical industry with 13% and the food industry with the smallest margin (3.7%).
The chemical industry index recorded a drop of 12.4%, and 12% for the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products. For manufacturing of fabricated metal products, excluding machinery and equipment, the decline was -5.9% while metalworking increased by 10.1%, and manufacturing of machinery and equipment fell by 1 .5%.
Furthermore, the extractive industries production index fell by 28.9%, resulting from the fall in the index of production of miscellaneous extractive industry products, by 30.2% and the increase in that of metal ores by 8.2%.
