The deputy comptroller general, Dorothy Pérez, gave a presentation – in front of mayors and municipal directors – on the supervision of services that have control duties and specifically warned regarding patents delivered to barbershops that are “open until 3 am and with delivery” .
According to El Mercurio, during the Annual Meeting of Mayors of the Association of Municipalities of Chile (Amuch), Pérez addressed the responsibility that municipal leaders have regarding the review of the commercial patents they submit.
“We are focused on ensuring that official duties are fulfilled. And that is why we are supervising public services in their control activities. For example, municipalities grant commercial licenses, and they have to supervise them, right? Well, we are reviewing that inspection that you must carry out,” the comptroller emphasized, adding that “we have found massive granting of commercial patents in matters in which we must see if it really corresponds.
In that sense, the head(s) of the supervisory body warned: “How can it happen that we have five barbershops per block in our country? Something happens there. And those barbershops open until 3 am and with delivery, and no one gets their hair cut through delivery. So, all Chileans know what happens in those barbershops.”
Subsequently, Pérez questioned: “What I’m wondering – and the Comptroller’s Office has been wondering these three months; We are working on it – is: why were commercial patents granted (to said premises)? (And the response is) ‘They met the requirements.'”
“Perfect, but did you see the declaration of equity capital? “And if I had a gigantic capital of my own, people who don’t know where they got that capital from, it won’t be money laundering, I won’t have to report it, I won’t have to coordinate with Internal Revenue?” added the comptroller.
