“Complete Your Property Declaration Form: A Guide to Avoiding Fines on impots.gouv.fr”

2023-05-11 05:20:03

While the start of the 2023 tax declaration was whistled on April 13, if you own at least one property, you must complete a second declaration.

Are you one of the 57% of French owners? If this is your case, you must complete an additional form alongside your annual tax return. This is one of the main novelties of the tax declaration campaign this year. The tax authorities want all owners to indicate the properties they use as their main residence. Those they occupy under the Principal residence are, since this year, exempt from housing tax. On the other hand, dwellings considered as second homes, rental accommodation or vacant dwellings remain subject to the housing tax or to the tax on vacant dwellings. Thus, the new reporting obligation should allow the General Directorate of Public Finance (DGFiP) to identify which taxpayers are still liable for these taxes in 2023.

Here’s how

To do this, you must go to your personal or professional space on the site. impots.gouv.fr, in the “manage my real estate” section, then in the “real estate” tab, and finally click on “occupancy declaration”. You will need your tax number and your password. You will be able to fill in the following information for each of your properties:

  1. The nature of the occupation : main residence, secondary residence, rented accommodation, etc…
  2. The identity of the occupants : surname, first name, date of birth and place of birth for natural persons.
  3. Occupancy period : start date and end date of the occupation period.
  4. The monthly rent excluding charges : if you rent it.

Be careful when completing your declaration, because an omission, an error or an absence of declaration will be sanctioned by a fixed fine of 150 euros per accommodation or local undeclared. If you have any questions, you can always contact the DGFIP, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., by telephone at 0 809 401 401.
