Saudi Arabia announced on Sunday evening that Monday would mark the first day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, making Wednesday June 28 the first day of Eid al-Adha.
The Saudi Supreme Court confirmed in a statement that the crescent sighting of Dhu al-Hijjah was confirmed, and that Monday marked its first day, according to what was reported by the official news agency.
Thus, Tuesday June 27 will be the day of Arafah, and Wednesday June 28 will be the first day of Eid al-Adha, according to the same source.
In a few days, the eyes of the Islamic world will turn to Mecca, where the rituals of Hajj begin for the year 1444 of the Hegira (2023 of the Christian era) and where the prayers at Mount Arafah constitute its most important pillar and its biggest pillar, as Saudi Arabia embarked on unprecedented preparations and official estimates point to a Hajj season “both exceptional and secure”.
Last February, Saudi Hajj Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah announced that his country expected to welcome more than two million pilgrims in the 2023 Hajj season, nearly a month following the Kingdom announced the return of the number and age of pilgrims to what they were before the coronavirus pandemic.
According to official information, 899,353 pilgrims were welcomed during the 2022 season, including 779,919 coming from outside the Kingdom, while the 2021 Hajj season was limited to only 60,000 pilgrims coming from within. interior of the Kingdom, subject at the time to strict health checks due to the coronavirus epidemic.
The year 2020 was an unusual Hajj season, as the number of pilgrims was limited to around 10,000 people from Saudi Arabia alone, compared to around 2.5 million in 2019, from all over the world.
