complaints from owners: Tesla updates worsen charging performance and range
Tesla owners are angry: According to “K-Tipp”, updates from the manufacturer significantly worsen the charging speed and volume of cars that have been around for a few years. The manufacturer has already been sentenced abroad for this reason.

Apparently, updates to older Tesla models worsen the car’s characteristics.
-
As a result, the charging speed and range of e-cars are falling.

In Norway and the USA, Tesla owners were therefore awarded compensation payments in court.
Reto W. from the canton of Bern is disappointed: When he bought his Tesla Model S from Tesla Switzerland four years ago, he was able to charge the battery at the charging station within 45 minutes for a range of 520 kilometers. He can only dream of that today: he now needs a whopping 140 minutes for it, like the consumer magazine «K tip» reported. In addition, the range has been reduced to 400 kilometers. This is despite the fact that the battery warranty runs until 2023. “The car is no longer suitable for me for everyday use,” says the Tesla driver angrily.
So he took the car to Tesla Service and expected the defect to be fixed under warranty. But Tesla refused on the grounds that the battery worked perfectly – there was no guarantee on the charging speed. When Reto W. then called in a lawyer who demanded that the battery be restored to its original charging capacity, Tesla refused, but admitted that the fast charging profile introduced in 2019 had “slightly reduced the peak charging rate” in order to “charge, battery performance and service life”. to optimize the battery.
For W., the update is a step backwards: “With the update, Tesla has made the charging speed of my car worse,” he complains. The “K-Tipp” writes that he did not get any answers when he asked Tesla Switzerland.
Successful lawsuits abroad
Many others are also familiar with the problem that arose from one of the regularly offered updates Tesla driver at home and abroad. In Norway, for example, 31 owners of older Tesla models sued the group because the update had negatively changed charging behavior. Tesla has not informed the owners of these consequences, according to the car owners’ lawyer. His clients were right in a court in Oslo in 2021: Tesla was sentenced to pay compensation of CHF 13,000 per owner. Tesla has appealed the verdict.
In California, a total of 1,700 people affected complained in 2019 because the charging speed and range of their cars had deteriorated following an update. According to the “K-Tipp”, Tesla recently agreed to a settlement in which the plaintiffs should receive $ 1.5 million.
