Competition for entry into the diplomatic service is launched and suitable people are invited to apply

Asuncion, IP Agency.- Ambassador Ricardo Scavone Yegros, Director General of the Diplomatic and Consular Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), reported on the key aspects of the upcoming entrance exam to the diplomatic and consular service of the country. The ambassador underlined the importance of these exams to strengthen and professionalize the Paraguayan diplomatic corps, ensuring transparency and meritocracy in the selection of new diplomats.

Ambassador Scavone Yegros emphasized that the diplomatic career is considered one of the most prestigious and demanding in the country, highlighting the importance of having a highly trained and committed diplomatic corps. “The diplomatic career is essential to represent and defend Paraguay’s interests in the international arena. Through these competitions, we guarantee that those selected have the skills and knowledge necessary to perform their duties efficiently and professionally,” said the ambassador.

One of the points highlighted by Ambassador Scavone Yegros was the transparency of the selection process. “We ensure that the competition is completely transparent and based on meritocracy. Candidates are rigorously evaluated in various areas, including knowledge of international politics, international law, languages, and negotiation skills. This allows us to select the best talents, who will represent Paraguay with excellence abroad,” he explained.

The entrance exam for the diplomatic and consular service includes several stages, including written exams, oral tests and personal interviews. “It is an exhaustive process, designed to assess both the academic knowledge and the practical skills of the candidates,” the ambassador explained.

Ambassador Scavone Yegros also highlighted the opportunities that this competition offers to young Paraguayan professionals. “The competition is a great opportunity for Paraguayans with a vocation for service who are interested in interacting in international relations, to join a very important service for our country and for our society, such as the diplomatic and consular service,” he concluded.

About the XVII Public Competition of Opposition and Merits

This year, ten places are available, which will be assigned to the contestants with the best scores, following criteria established in Law No. 6935/22. Applications to the contest include a minimum of 80% of places for people with university degrees in related areas such as law, economics, international relations, social sciences, environmental sciences, among others. The remaining 20% ​​is intended for citizens with recognized capacity and university level, having, in both cases, passed at least 50% of their university degree.

The ten candidates who obtain the highest scores in the competition will be incorporated into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within the Diplomatic and Consular Service with the rank of Third Secretary. They will then have to serve in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, outside of working hours, complete a two-year training course at the Diplomatic and Consular Academy. This process marks the beginning of their career in the diplomatic service, which has no limits until retirement age, allowing them to develop professionally and contribute continuously to the international representation of Paraguay.
