Competition Commission – EKPOIZO: “Break the chains of Vertical Partnership”

The creation of a social message to inform and raise awareness among consumers regarding the illegal practice of vertical collusion in setting resale prices was jointly decided by the Competition Commission and the Consumers’ Union “The Quality of Life” – EKPIZO.

With the message “Break the chains of Vertical Partnership” the Competition Commission and EKPOIZO call on consumers to denounce illegal vertical partnerships.

It is recalled that the Competition Commission and EKPOIZO have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation since October 2019.

A video has been created for consumers to watch so they can be aware of illegal resale price fixing agreements. This is an animated video that takes the game market as an example. If any consumer comes into contact with a similar phenomenon as described in the video, they are invited to report the incident to the Competition Commission or the E.K.POI.ZO Consumer Union. “By doing so, it will help to better control the market and reduce prices” as underlined in the announcement.

It is noted that the video was created at zero cost and entirely by the employees of the Digital Communication and Public Relations department of the Competition Commission, while the idea for the topic was given by the communication team of EKPOIZO based on the experience it has gained from consumer reports. The video is available both on the website and social networks of the Competition Commission and EKPOIZO.

What is a vertical partnership?

As EKPOIZO states in its announcement, the vertical collusion to fix resale prices refers to illegal agreements made by suppliers with retailers which have as their direct or indirect object the limitation of the retailer’s ability to determine the selling price of the product himself, including those of agreements which provide for a fixed or minimum selling price to be observed by the retailer.
