With the arrival of Netflix, Prime or even Disney +, not to mention IPTV, many Belgians no longer feel the need to take out a television subscription. A good connection, allowing the whole family to watch their favorite program on a television screen or tablet and that’s it. But in the jungle of operator offers, it is not always easy to navigate. Basic offer or ultra-fast connection, there is something for all profiles. New players have also appeared and intend to compete with the market giants who are already announcing new price increases for next year.
Fiber is also being deployed across the country, encouraging operators to focus their new offers on this network. This is the case of Proximus, hard at work in the streets to install this technology (with an increase of €3 per month for the basic offer for customers with fiber), or even of Orange, which has decided to pass all of its subscription plans under the “Fiber” name. “In order to prepare our infrastructure to manage future data volumes, while maintaining high performance, we will evolve our network through a gradual replacement of coaxial cable household connections with optical fiber,” indicates Orange.
Low-cost operators are no exception either, like Hey! (Orange group), which offers an Internet connection offer with unlimited volume and speeds of up to 150/10 Mbps, almost similar to that of Orange but at €39/month instead of €49.
All operators offer different offers with sometimes limited volumes or variable loading speeds, so that it is sometimes complicated to navigate.
Telecom prices, the bill is steep: the Belgian pays up to €44.3 more than the French for their subscription!
Before you decide, it is important to determine your needs. If it is a basic use, consisting of surfing the internet and reading and exchanging emails, there is no need to opt for the most complete offer on the market. For a Brussels customer, for example, Proximus’ Essential offer is more than sufficient, at €25 per month. For €25.95, the Edpnet offer with unlimited volume (but speed of 20/2 Mbps) is also a good alternative.
However, for a family that wants Ultra HD, plays video games and all members use the network at the same time, a faster connection offering unlimited volume is required. Once there are many users on the connection, it is appropriate to opt for a speed of 200/10 Mbps is required. Especially since the speeds announced are only theoretical and can vary depending on many factors (number of users, address, etc.). Finally, Edpnet and its Fast Fiber offer offers you the fastest speeds (500/100 Mbps) for 44.95 euros/month.
Depending on the region, the competition is not the same, other offers may prove more advantageous. Let us also point out that via Astel.be, it is possible to find promotional offers that are not found on the operators’ sites. Offers which can also include installation and activation costs, which are also a barrier to changing operator.
