Compare Chery Tiggo 7 Pro MAX and Exeed LX: why pay more?

2023-04-30 18:44:52

We continue to compare the two closest “relatives” of the same manufacturer: Chery Tiggo 7 Pro MAX and Exeed LX. And also we are looking for an answer to the question voiced in the first part: how justified is the difference in the price of these cars?

Opening trunks

Exeed LX or Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max trunks

Both electric cars have them, the same configuration and brushed carpet trim. However, there is a tiny difference between them – Chery has a 12-volt socket on the left wall, Exeed does not have one.

Exeed LX or Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max spare parts

Spares are different. “Seven” pleases fans of long-distance travel with a full-size wheel. The LX has a narrow dokatka.

Due to this solution, a place was formed under the raised floor for a rather deep foam plastic organizer tray. It can accommodate a cable, additional tools and other automotive personal belongings. If desired, the organizer can be removed, which will lower the raised floor by 8-10 centimeters and thus slightly increase the volume of the trunk. However, the “default” luggage compartments of the “seven” and LX are the same.

Techno-power

Well, we got to the technical content that distinguishes the Chinese brothers.

What will please Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max?

– Fog lights.

– Automatic high/low beam control.

– Ionization of the air in the passenger compartment when using recirculation.

In addition, the “seventh” Max is endowed with such modern technologies as:

Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max driver's seat controls

– Memory settings for the driver’s seat and exterior mirrors.

– Warning of an approaching car, cyclist or pedestrian when any door is opened.

How will Exeed LX respond?

– Oversized tires – 225 / 55R19.

– Photochromic (self-dimming) interior rear-view mirror.

– Built-in DVR.

Exeed LX fuel filler flap opening

There is also not the most pleasant moment. Exeed will make you bow to the driver’s seat every time you fill up to pull the fuel filler flap. A strange solution for a modern car, in which such a lock is usually controlled by the central lock. However, if you get used to the procedure for unlocking the hatch at a gas station before leaving the car, then such a solution ceases to be a minus.

In my opinion, the problem is obtained. A cheaper car can do more than a premium one. For this, fifty thousand will have to cancel the write-off of “additional” money for LX. A total of one hundred and fifty remains in question.

Roadside check

Here we, as in the whole story, will focus on the differences in the sensations of cars while driving. I’ll immediately note a small minus of Exeed – the control of the variator is unusual here. Switching from D to R mode and vice versa requires a double action, as the first movement is in neutral. At Chery, one movement is enough for such switching.

Accelerating and braking properties

The power units of the cars are the same, so there is no need to expect a difference in acceleration. The only moment – Chery subjectively seems a little livelier and more active. Most likely this car is a little noisier, and therefore causes a feeling of more nimble.

Exeed LX or Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max rear lights

The rear lights of each car are elegant in their own way.

The brakes on the Exeed work perfectly. Effective both in the city and on the highway, informative and well predictable, the pedal is “dense”, with a short free play. You can feel the competent tuning of the characteristics of the vacuum amplifier.

Braking on Chery takes some getting used to. In terms of efficiency, the brakes are equivalent to the Exeed, but the pedal is too light, and therefore uninformative. In addition, the force on it practically does not increase with an increase in stroke, so it will be difficult to dose the slowdown at first.

Handling and behavior at high speed

Here the situation is similar. Chery’s steering wheel is too light, and therefore it is difficult to control the steering wheel angle – you can easily turn it more than the situation requires. In addition, during sudden rebuilds, the car heels, and when performing the “elk test”, it sways like a keelless boat. Therefore, I do not recommend nimble in bundles of turns.

At high speeds, the electric power steering slightly “presses” the steering wheel, and it becomes heavy in the near-zero zone. For this reason, small taxiings remain not entirely clear. Due to the increased effort to move the “steering wheel” from the straight position, the driver is forced to turn it a little more than required.

The Exeed has a slightly damped electric steering wheel, so it is more viscous here. Just a little bit to ensure steering angle accuracy when making course corrections at high speed. And it also helps to rotate the “steering wheel” a little softer during a sharp change of lane. Therefore, the car rolls less than Chery and behaves more confidently during extreme maneuvers. This does not interfere with the steering process, it only gives a feeling of power.

Components of comfort

Smooth running

Perhaps, in this nomination, the overall ratings of the cars are close, although the priorities of their chassis settings are different.

On the highway, the “seven” is slightly inferior to the LX. On gentle waves, shock absorbers are not effective enough to dampen the buildup of the body. This is clearly visible when passing speed bumps, following jumping off such an obstacle, the car makes a curtsy, swinging the body back and forth.

Suspension Exeed moderately damped. He behaves like a big ship, ignoring the small ripples on the water. Softly, evenly, with dignity and without swaying. On rough roads, the LX is unnecessarily harsh and its suspension is a little noisier. Here Chery takes its toll – it swallows bumps more efficiently. A little “loose” characteristic of shock absorbers affects.

Acoustic comfort

Exeed is clearly ahead, the car is “silent”, at high speed only a slight rolling noise of the front wheels penetrates into the cabin. Quiet in the back of the car. By the way, I did not find sound insulation under the spare wheel in either one or the other.

Exeed LX trunk organizer

I guess the Exeed’s foam tray organizer helps muffle the “stern” noise.

In Chery, the rustling of the wheels is more intrusive, penetrating the interior from the rear and front, drowning out the music at high speed.

Perhaps part of the difference in ride, noise, and handling is due to different tyres. The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max has an Atlas Batman A50 SUV 225/60R18 with modest specifications. Exeed LX shoes are more decent – top-end Continental UltraContact 6, besides, slightly lower profile, 225 / 55R19.

We delight eyes and ears

Instruments and multimedia

The dashboard screen on Chery is very bright, with clearly drawn instruments and numbers. True, the picture here is simple and concise, and the division prices of the speedometer and tachometer are too big. The multimedia screen slows down a little, its reactions do not keep up with finger movements.

Exeed LX or Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max dashboards tidy

The Exeed instrument dials are more precise, and also look voluminous. The screen works without delay. All this creates a feeling of premium.

Exeed LX sound effects Arkamys audio

On the Exeed LX, gourmets can turn on Arkamys sound effects

Music in Chery sounds good. Until… you listen to Exeed. Here the sound is juicier and deeper, especially when the sound effects of Arkamys, which are endowed with a musical device, are turned on.

In behavior on asphalt and comfort Exeed LX takes its toll. I believe that he has the right to ask for this thousand two hundred “from above”, taking into account the 19 top-end Continental tires. Which eventually covers all the “additional” costs.

Exeed LX or Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max headlights

Chery headlights, oddly enough, shine a little better (brighter) than Exeed. Although on both machines they are LED. Apparently, Tiggo 7 Pro Max has more modern ones.

Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max Side Rear Test Drive Dealer

Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max is a solid car. Livelier, more practical and even somewhat smarter than Exeed. Let me remind you that the “seven max” is several years fresher than its rival. Therefore, it is more saturated with modern technologies.

Suitable for the daring, young and youthful. The suspension of the “seven” is more loyal to broken roads.

Exeed LX side rear test drive dealer

Exeed LX creates a different mood and is perceived differently – a more adult car. He is more solid and thoroughbred. And it is located “a floor above” – even taking into account the absence of the latest technologies of the 7 Pro Max and the presence of a few small minuses. I have no doubt that in the very near future LX will be upgraded and will receive all the technological innovations of Chery.

The car is more feminine than masculine. In addition, accomplished, but modest men who have already left their youth will like it. Prefers good quality roads.

I take my hat off to Chery specialists for the qualified separation of seemingly almost identical cars.

And now my final personal opinion, answering the main question asked at the beginning of the material: they don’t ask for too much for Exeed LX. He is worth his money. However, this also applies to Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max.

And you, dear readers, what do you think regarding this?
