Comparative Analysis of Crème Brûlées: Packaging, Taste, and Value for Money

Aspect of the packaging: it was quite successful overall, with different styles. For Aldi and Lidl, we opt for a fairly classy black, with a well-displayed product. For Intermarché, we are working on something very simple, with a color that is very clearly reminiscent of crème brûlée. At Colruyt, the product was fairly well promoted but it was a little too busy for our taste. On the Delhaize side, it was quite simple and might be modernized a little. Finally, the big brand – La Laitière – was in its usual yellow packaging.

The big brand test: the big brand fails for Bolognese sauce! (COMPARATIVE)

Appearance of the product: for Intermarché, we found the cream a little too white and it lacked scent. It was quite the opposite for the Aldi product, which had the appearance of homemade cream and a nice smell of vanilla. At Lidl, the product looked extremely similar. Besides, the glass jar was identical. For the big brand, it had little smell but it looked better than the crème brûlée from Intermarché. For Carrefour and Colruyt, the sugar did not create a nice crust on the cream when it came out of the oven but the cream had a nice color and a good smell.

Nutritional value: Nutri-Score D for Intermarché, C for the rest.

Readability of the label: for Intermarché, it was perfectly readable and clear. For Aldi, there was too much text to quickly find information. Same problem at Lidl. For Delhaize, it was even worse. On the Colruyt side, it was already easier to find information. For the big brand, it was a little busy but OK.

The big brand test: autumn is back, the raclette season is launched (COMPARATIVE)

Taste: we start with Intermarché. It wasn’t bad but it tasted more like artificial flavors than real crème brûlée. A bit disappointing. The look was tempting and the taste was just as tempting for the Aldi crème brûlée. For Lidl it was similar to Aldi but different. A little less vanilla but a smoother cream. A great surprise. For the big brand, it wasn’t bad at all but without reaching new heights either. It lacked a bit of taste. We end with Delhaize and Colruyt. The description will be grouped together given that the pots were the same, the sugar packets were the same, and the taste… too! Fortunately, these were the two best products.

Value for money: here are the prices in order for two pots of crème brûlée: Intermarché, Lidl, Aldi and Colruyt (€1.89), Delhaize (€1.95 for the same product as Colruyt, therefore) and finally The Milkmaid (€2.99).
