The German company J. Weck, which markets the well-known preserving jars, has filed for bankruptcy. The jars ensure that fruit and vegetables, for example, remain good for a long time and became so popular that preserving has been included in the dictionary. Now, following 123 years, the company is probably coming to an end.

A subsidiary of J. Weck, Weck Glaswerk, has also submitted the same application. Several German media reported the bankruptcy, following which a spokesman for the company confirmed the news.

Wecken experienced a small upswing during the corona pandemic, but that might not prevent the company from going under. The exact reason for the bankruptcy is not yet clear.

Weck was founded in 1900 by Johann Carl Weck, among others. In addition to pots, the company also made closures and kettles. The pots are very popular, not only in Germany, but also in the Netherlands, for example.

Wecken therefore became synonymous with preserving foodstuffs. The word was even included in the dictionary, also in our country.

The preserving jars are characterized by being made of glass, including the lid. They also have a bracket and a rubber ring. With a special technique, the contents of the pots can remain good for years.
