Next Monday, the president of Medef will be received by the Prime Minister in order to relaunch social dialogue after the pension reform he was in favor of. For Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, guest of Europe 1 this Friday, the social conflict is not about wages in private companies. He also believes that companies have been able to manage the challenge of inflation.

The Prime Minister will receive the president of Medef next Monday with the aim of relaunching social dialogue with companies and their employees, especially after the promulgation of a highly contested pension reform. Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux was the guest of Europe 1 this Friday morning for his meeting with Elisabeth Borne, with whom he will “talk social” and will obviously focus on the inflation which affects the French on a daily basis.

The president of Medef will be expected in particular on the question of salaries, although he is surprised: “It is interesting that we are expected, because private companies have done the work”, he believes. “It’s a figure that comes from Urssaf, it’s not a figure from Medef: +5.8% average wages per ‘head'”. The latter further explains that this percentage is equivalent to “almost inflation”, which would thus offset its effects.

“The other big employer is the public”

In addition, the guest from Europe 1 stresses the importance of differentiating the responsibility of public and private companies on differences in wage increases. “I’m just taking a comparison, the other big employer in the country, we know, is the public. What do you think is the average increase? Around 2%, so I think companies have does the job.”

Especially since Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux notices a social context that is not very demanding in the private sector. “There are quite a few social conflicts in companies over wages, we have a conflict rate which is very low. This is not what we are told about. We are told about strikes in the public, not in the private,” he said.

“The 5.8 covers slightly different realities: large companies have probably increased more, SMEs perhaps less, it depends on the sectors, we can do better”, recognizes all the same the president of the employers’ union.
