With the aim of disseminating good management and business practices and reinforcing the commitment of Registration Authorities to the good provision of services and socio-environmental responsibility, the Association of Registration Authorities of Brazil (AARB) launched, in August 2023, the Seal of Ethical Action in Digital Certification during the 4th Meeting of Brazilian Registration Authorities – Encontr[AR]an in-person event that took place in the capital of São Paulo.
Protense, Ceará Certification, PKS7 Registration Authority, SIC Digital Certification, CertFácil, Certo Online, V&G Digital Certification, SIG Digital Certification, CertiRio and São Paulo Digital Certification are the companies that have already committed to the initiative.
To adhere to the Seal, registration authorities, companies responsible for carrying out the processes of in-person checking of documents and identity of those interested in issuing a digital certificate, must sign a letter of principles and must commit to guiding their management and business action in compliance with the legislation and regulations of the Brazilian Public Key Infrastructure – ICP-Brazil.
Furthermore, they must respect Brazilian tax legislation, competitive, corporate and labor ethics, respect human rights and guarantee inclusion, customer rights and sustainability.
“Launching this Ethical Action Seal with a very comprehensive rule so that customers are seen as the main point by registration authorities and also reinforces the commitment to the environment, because the digital certificate provides sustainability by eliminating the use of paper and even travel, reducing pollutant emissions”, says the executive president of AARB, Jorge Prates
According to the Association, guiding parameters for action in the business environment, in competitive practices and in the necessary transparency of business decisions can further reinforce ICP-Brasil and the entire administrative, technical and economic framework that guarantees the functioning of digital certification in the country .
Participating remotely in the launch event, Maurício Coelho, then deputy director-president of the National Institute of Information Technology (ITI), a federal agency linked to the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic that maintains the Brazilian Public Key Infrastructure, praised the initiative. “All the action to promote ethics, compliance and compliance with the regulations of the ICP-Brasil system is commendable. We are sure that with this the registration authorities that adhere to the seal will be working increasingly towards improving their compliance.”
For Bruno Linhares, director of AARB, registration authorities that follow ethical parameters in their work will finally receive recognition. “We expect great support from RAs, certification authorities and other associations to build this movement together around ethics in digital certification”.
Regina Tupinambá, publicist and founder of Portal Crypto ID, a website specializing in digital identification, recalled the initiatives of associations in other segments that promote guarantee seals for their members and how this generates value for companies. “The time has come for us, for the first time, to have the seal for digital certification. It generates brand value, contributes to the company’s reputation, differentiates between competitors, as you are standing out in the market, conveys credibility and identifies companies that have made an ethical commitment in society, both among their peers and to customers and collaborators,” he said.
Lawyer Rita Cortez, former president of the Brazilian Lawyers Institute and president of the Carioca Law Academy, recalled that values such as sustainability and respect for human rights are in the Federal Constitution. “These values need to be followed, because we can only build a fairer and more productive society when we all collaborate and observe these values and rights”, she recalled.
