Belgians travel on average 20 kilometers to get to work. This is what a new study from SD Worx demonstrates. In particular, we discover that the journey between home and work varies depending on the province.
On the podium of the provinces where the journey is the longest, we find East Flanders with 59 minutes round trip, Walloon Brabant with 57 minutes and Flemish Brabant with 55 minutes.
However, this does not mean that the inhabitants of these provinces travel the most kilometers. It is in Flemish Brabant that people travel the most, with 53 kilometers to get to work. Next comes Walloon Brabant, with 46 kilometers and finally, East Flanders with 38 kilometers.
There is also a province in which many commuters live but do not work… It is Walloon Brabant.
This is a special case: only 46.4% of citizens who live there work there. The majority go elsewhere: 40% work in Brussels, 6% in Namur, 4.5% in Flemish Brabant and 2.7% in East Flanders.
Conversely, residents of the province of Luxembourg are by far the closest to their place of work – both geographically and in duration – with 23 km traveled in 25 minutes on average per day.
Just behind them, the Liégeois take 43 minutes to cover an average of 38 km.
Brussels residents spend 43 minutes per day on the road and cover a distance of 28 kilometers round trip on average, while non-Brussels who travel to the capital for professional reasons travel 73 minutes round trip daily. back.
Belgians spend on average 50 minutes traveling per day and cover 40 kilometers during the day. The majority work in the province where they live.
The city that attracts the most commuters of all the provinces is, unsurprisingly, Brussels.
