Maurice Bosembo Ilondjo recently admitted to the Saint-Jérôme courthouse having sexually assaulted a patient who went to see him in December 2016 because of lumbar and back pain.

After diagnosing the victim with a thoracolumbar sprain, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, Bosembo decided to undertake a massage in order to relieve his pain.

The family doctor, who practiced for more than 33 years in Quebec, then asked his patient to lie on her stomach.

“She turns her head and notices that the fly of Dr. Bosembo’s pants is open. She tells him no and tries to get up from the table,” the joint statement of facts reads.

The victim managed to leave the examination table, but the doctor did not release his grip on it.

“Dr. Bosembo tells him that he needs warmth, that he is his master,” the defendant’s lawyer, Me Nadine Touma, read in court.

The offender then began to masturbate and even ejaculated on his patient, even though the latter repeated “no” to him several times.

serious consequences

The victim of Mr. Bosembo was marked forever by this consultation, she indicated in a letter which was read in court by the Crown prosecutor, Me Jonathan Rabchuk.

“You have changed my life. Within minutes my life became hell,” she wrote.

“Before entering your clinic, I was a good wife, a good mother and proud of my life. Coming out of there, everything was gone forever,” she continued, mentioning that her husband wanted to divorce her because of the assault.

Mr. Bosembo’s guilty plea thus avoids the victim having to testify once morest him. She was very afraid to face the accused, said Me Rabchuk during the hearing.

Maurice Bosembo Ilondjo, who now resides in Laval, was therefore sentenced to three years’ probation as well as 240 hours of community service.

Last December, he was found guilty by the College of Physicians of having used his status to sexually assault a patient.

The minimum sentence for this type of offense is a five-year disbarment, according to the Professional Code. Mr. Bosembo is still awaiting a decision on the penalty in this case.
