Commonwealth Games Sri Lankan players sink; Will not go back home

Sri Lankan players who came to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games are missing. It is reported that nine athletes and one manager drowned following completing the competitions due to the living conditions in Lanka. International media reports that they are hiding in the UK

Judo player Chamila Dilani, manager Azela D’Silva and wrestler Shanith Chaturanga went missing last week. Then the Lankan authorities filed a complaint with the police. After this, seven more stars went missing

Reports are that they are trying to find employment and stay in the UK. The Lankan authorities had bought and kept the passports of the stars to ensure their return to Sri Lanka. Some stars have sunk beyond this. Although the police found three people who drowned, no action can be taken once morest them. Actors have been given a six-month visa

This is not the first time that sportspersons from Sri Lanka have drowned following reaching other countries. In 2004, a 23-member Lankan team that went to a handball tournament in Germany was drowned. In 2014, the two athletes who had come to the Asian Games in South Korea were missing.
